Hey, I just bought a p6140d too… my 3-year old Acer Aspire series laptop went dead, and needed to go back to its Taiwanese overlords to see if it can be “revived”… so I needed a desktop replacement pronto!

Upgraded mine to 4GB RAM and also added a 512MB nVidia video card.

    The good:
    - the most affordable for its specs range… compared it with other branded, generic, and custom-builds
    - local HP service support! no more foreign overlords!
    - off-the-shelf components used inside, easier to repair/upgrade once beyond warranty
    - genuine Vista = free Microsoft Antivirus and updated Defender! yey!
    - excellent 20″ LCD, bright and very wide
    - audio level of built-in speakers is satisfactory
    - nice medium-small form factor, cover panels for DVD and ports, shiny black front easier to clean than flat matt
    - collection of pre-loaded games a nice touch
    - amazing webcam software, guaranteed to delight kids
    - hp toolbar for the techno-bobo

    The bad:
    - pre-loaded OS is Vista, not Win7 =(
    - Vista is updated only up to SP1, so you need to spend a lot of online time (300+MB download/install from Microsoft website) to upgrade it to SP2 specs
    - would have loved to have a different partition for data, in case Vista goes kaput… so now I would have to use Partition Magic 8 to create a new partition where all my data should go
    - no installer/recovery CD! even for the drivers! need to create your own! prepare to set aside 3 DVDs and 3-4 hours on this!
    - built-in intel graphics accelerator chip is meh
    - effectively only 4 USB ports are free… the keyboard and mouse already uses up 2
    - no anti-dust cover for the multi-card reader
    - every card slot of the multi-card reader appears as a removable drive in My Computer, even if no cards are inserted… this clutters up your directory needlessly… guaranteed to confuse my technobobo sister

Overall: a nice shiny toy worth your money, worth your while! if you have the cash (or if you have BPI SIP), go for it. might want to wait for the Win7 version, tho only God knows when this will come out. anyway, Vista supposedly works almost as well as Win7 once you upgraded it with all the fixes and patches.

I would like to say, excellent page. Im unsure if it has been talked about, but when using Explorer I can never get the entire blog to load without refreshing alot of times. Could just be my CPU. Thanks
